Planet LED table lamp by Tokujin Yoshioka with touch dimmer The most striking feature of the Planet designer table lamp from Kartell is its sparkling and glittering glow, which enchants the surroundings with a beautiful play of light. It is hard to believe that this effect is not created by crystals, but by a lampshade made of plastic. Creating a sparkling light effect without crystals was the challenge Tokujin Yoshioka set himself when designing this light. Together with Kartell, the company renowned for its designer plastic pieces, the designer built many prototypes until the thermoplastic technopolymer from which the lampshade is made had been moulded in such a way as to produce the desired crystal effect. Among Kartell’s best-known design pieces are the K 1340 children’s chair and the KS 1481 lemon squeezer. In the field of lighting, the Model 4006 by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni from 1959 and the Tic Tac series, created in 1970, have contributed to the company’s high profile. Many of Kartell’s designer pieces have not only won various awards but, despite their relatively recent origins, can already be admired in museums.
